This is a bit of a different review as for the very first time Iwas gifted a book to review! What a treat! I was already eyeing this read before its release date so it was a real treat to be sent this. Let’s get into it!
Avery Mason, a rising TV reporter with a hunger for a story, hears about a new development in 9/11 remains discovered in NYC 20 years later. As she heads out to chase the lead down, she comes to realize she’s stumbled on a story much bigger than just new DNA testing. A cold case murder get’s dredged up including the original detective on the case and all the players. But Avery’s got her own secrets to hide and hopes uncovering this case doesn’t bring them out as well.
Lately it’s felt like I’ve struggled to find a truly amazing read. I’ve found lots of good reads, some even great, but I haven’t been truly blown away by a book in awhile. I’d like to say this book was mediocre or just good, as frankly that would sound like a far less biased review. However I simply can’t. This was hands down the best book I’ve read in 2022. It had the excitement, the diverse and robust characters and twists I did not see coming. It was really well written and an even better story. Even in the final chapter I didn’t see the final page’s ending coming. This is the kind of novel that first made me fall in love with fiction. Frankly, if you read one book this year, let this be it.
Rating: 5/5
Luckily I’m reading it next!
